Turing 2026

Greetings Western Massachusetts high school students and parents.
The UMass Turing Summer Program is back for 2026!
We are looking forward to hosting you this summer, applications are now open.

The UMass Turing Summer Program is for you, if:

  1. You will be a high school sophomore or junior in Fall 2026 and are interested in using Computer Science and Technology for societal good.
  2. You want to learn about programming, AI, robotics, cloud computing, networks, electronics, 3D printing and more, and how to apply these technologies to various fields (healthcare, energy etc...).
  3. No prior computing or IT experience is required - the program is open to all.

Program Overview: The UMass Turing Summer Program is a three-week summer program for high school students interested in learning about computer science in the Manning College of Information & Computer Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. The program provides a broad introduction to how computing can address challenges in fields such as healthcare, security, design, energy, sustainability, and many other areas. You will learn about the latest technologies in AI, cloud computing, 3D printing, robotics and more from university faculty and researchers working at the university.

Intended Participants: The program is specifically designed for students entering the tenth and eleventh grades at high schools in Western Massachusetts. Some experience with programming in a language such as Python or Java is desirable but not required. Some background in high-school mathematics is assumed for this program.
Note: The program is primarily for local students who can commute to the UMass campus daily. We don't provide housing and transporation. Non-local students will be considered on a space-available basis.

Program Format/Schedule: The program is composed of classroom work, lab sessions, site visits, and makerspace sessions that will provide students with a broad introduction to modern computing across many areas including programming, sensing, cybersecurity, data analysis, visualization, and robotics. We offer a hands-on program where students will learn by doing, and the program will feature the use of signal processing and machine learning using Python. The program curriculum for 2026 is currently being planned and will be posted as soon as it is finalized.
